Hello there!! If you could reblog to share this, it’d mean a lot to me!
WGI season has officially started for drumlines, and I’ve been offered a contract for Pulse Open World (POW) Percussion ensemble, currently 10th best drumline in the world! I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.
However, as most drumline members know, you don’t just get in and compete for free. Member contribution/tour fees for POW add up to around $1700; this wasn’t unexpected, of course, as it was the same figure for my other indoor drumline, but this figure hits just as hard as it did the last year. My mother is physically disabled — doing better, thankfully — but her medical bills often add up. Just to get to auditions this year (I live in Bakersfield, auditions were in Westminster), my car’s transmission and engine failed simultaneously, a $4000 replacement ballpark that I’m not even going to include in this fundraiser; rides are possible (difficult, but possible), and transportation won’t matter if I’m not able to participate in the first place. If it is fixed, I will have to share it with my father, who has only very recently come back into employment after a long period of not working, and his contract is only good until the end of the year. Basically, finances are low, family income is being allocated to priorities, but my family is still encouraging and accepting of my decision to tackle this activity, as long as I can raise what I need.
TL;DR - I’m a music major wanting to expand my horizons past strings, drumline is pretty expensive, and family income is low. Any contributions, even just $1, are graciously accepted and greatly appreciated!
